About
The purpose of this blog is to satisfy my insatiable desire for Latin music.
I currently reside in the Chicagoland area where some of my favorite music, Latin tropical genres, are no longer represented. It’s hard to believe, but Chicago no longer offers a radio station that sponsors music such as Salsa and Merengue. This has a huge impact on our culture and deprives many people opportunities for advancement. From my experience as a local Salsa singer, it makes it that much harder knowing that I would not be able to come up on the Salsa scene in the Chicagoland area because I do not have the vehicle that propels local talent.
This not only affects the struggling independant artist, but the main stream Salsa/Merengue artist who find themselves not selling albums like they could in the past. How would you know when Frankie Negron’s new album comes out if there is no Salsa radio station to promote it? How will you know when Elvis Crespo comes out with a new Merengue album?
To compensate for the void in my community, I want to create an environment that celebrates the music I cherish; while creating a name for myself as a passionate reviewer and connoisseur of Latin music.
Where a radio station cannot propel me to stardom, a blog could potentially be the big break into building a name for myself as a passionate admirer of Latin music.
