El Baile de Sancocho

July 19th, 2008

YouTube is great because it lets people showcase talent that they would otherwise not be able to. Enter the Gabe Gabe Show.

OMG! This is the funniest thing since In Living Color. Two young dominican guys do several skits making a mockery of latino and urban culture. This video, appropriately labeled El Baile de Sancocho,  is a parody of some of the wack ass latino music videos that are out there. This is true talent. Disfrutan!

Domenic Marte

June 14th, 2008

I recently had the privilege of doing an interview with Domenic Marte. I was surprised by his willingness to work with me despite his busy schedule as a performer and promoter of his new record label, Direct Balance Records. Here is a snippet of our recent chat conversations: Read the rest of this entry »

Bats N Rome Hit Single

June 12th, 2008

This up and coming Reggaeton dual has a pretty hot single out featuring Domenic Marte. And I say ‘up and coming’ only because I never heard them on the radio in the Chicagoland area. (La Kalle? What you be on? Make it or Break it? Make it Carajo!) But I have heard these guys are exploding on the East Coast so maybe it just takes a while to travel to the Midwest.

Amigo by Ken Y

June 7th, 2008

I went to Puerto Rico a couple months ago and on the radio I kept hearing this song called Amigo by Ken Y. I really liked it. I found this live performance of it. I still can’t believe these artists think its cool to wear sunglasses while they are on stage. I mean, if the audience can see your eyes then your performance is that much more better! But what do I know. I’m still an amateur. Those lights do get kinda bright on stage. Read the rest of this entry »

Jowell Y Randy Another Reggaeton Dual

December 15th, 2007

So I recently got a copy of the yet to be released Jowell Y Randy’s “Los Mas Sueltos del Reggaeton”. If you don’t recognize their name at first glance you may have heard their hits with such groups as Casa de Leones. Overall the album is just alright, mostly because there are too many average songs. Reggaeton is dance/club style music and I would expect an album to reflect that. However, a couple of non-typical Reggaeton songs on the album stand out. Read the rest of this entry »

Unglorious Estefan

November 24th, 2007

There was a place and time for Gloria Estefan’s “talent” and I’m sure we all know that I am referring to the glorious days of the Miami Sound Machine.

Estefan has been on a campaign against Fidel Castro her entire life and her most recent album, 90 Millas, appears to be another kick in the stomach to the Castro Regime. Apparently she comes from one of the many Cuban families that were driven away from the island (by its own people-led by Castro) for merging with the US and taking advantage of their fellow countrymen. And since Castro has successfully developed and taken great care of Cuba since his rule, Estefan really has no argument against him. If you can look past the negative stereotypes given by the old school anti-communist American media, you will know that Cuba has better public schools than Chicago, they lead the world in AIDS research, and are fairly competitive in the Olympics! But, I digress. Read the rest of this entry »

Add Salsa to Your Holiday Parrandas

November 18th, 2007

I didn’t know what to expect when I bought Victor Manuelle’s new CD “Una Navidad a Mi Estilo”, other than that there was Christmas themed songs. I must admit that I fascinated about the album possibly being a modern rendition of what Lavoe did back in the day with the two parter “Asalto Navideño”. So I probably set myself up for disappointment at that point, lol, but surprisingly overall the album was pretty good. Read the rest of this entry »
